The Magic of Big Sibling Love
Welcoming S and her family into the studio for their third baby’s newborn shoot was an absolute dream. Her children were slightly older, and they were so deeply in love with their new baby sibling right from the very start. Welcoming a third baby brings such a sweet, dynamic shift to a family, and having older siblings who are genuinely excited makes the studio atmosphere feel so special. They were completely on board with everything, eager to show off their proud big sibling roles and shower their new baby with love and cuddles.
S was wonderfully relaxed and came so well prepared with everyone’s styling. Because this was an autumn shoot, we played with lovely, cosy layers that felt soft and comfortable for postpartum recovery while looking timeless on camera. When older children join a newborn session, a few thoughtful details make a big difference. For girls with longer hair, keeping it loose is beautiful, but simply tying or pinning back the front sections stops it from covering their faces when they lean down to cuddle the baby. For boys, having a brush or a little gel on hand helps keep everything looking neat throughout all the energetic snuggles.
What made this session flow so effortlessly was how calm and present S was throughout the entire morning. It can be so tempting as a parent to worry about controlling every single moment or achieving a flawless pose, but the secret to natural newborn portraits is simply letting go of that pressure. These sessions are not about stiff perfection. They are about capturing real family memories, unscripted giggles, and that incredible connection as your older children realise they have a brand-new best friend for life.
By focusing on warm family cuddles and giving the older children space to express their love naturally, the studio stayed light, happy, and completely stress-free. Seeing all three of her children snuggled together was a sweet reminder of how beautiful it is when a family expands.
“We saw Charlie at the end of October 25 and she was amazing. She made us all feel totally at ease. She was amazing with the baby but also the older children as well. We all really enjoyed our time in the studio and loved the photos that Charlie created.
